Points of Entry

Summary

Points of entry identifies readerships and contexts where Standing and Answerability Ethics may be useful, and which parts of the framework carry weight for each. It is the complement to Registers of Claim: that page charts what rejecting parts of the framework costs — its points of exit — while this page charts where different readers may arrive and which parts may matter there.

The page is orientation, not doctrine. The identifications below are editorial fit-claims: they do not predict adoption, recruit readers, or imply that the framework endorses every project named. Several audiences listed here hold positions the framework criticizes, and several hold positions incompatible with each other. The grievance patterns behind many arrivals are mapped separately at Grievance and Capture.

How to read this page

Three cautions fix the register:

Academic contexts

Procreative and population ethics. The framework contributes an antinatalism distinct from harm-based and risk-based accounts: Antinatalism in the Standing Framework asserts no harm, cannot rank lives, and rests on the unavailability of a warrant rather than a negative welfare verdict. It answers the non-identity problem non-comparatively through Exposure, grants the procreative asymmetry while denying that it supplies a warrant, and presents The Gift View as a live rival rather than as an objection to be defeated.

Political philosophy. Standing Answerability offers legitimacy without founding consent by grounding accountability in the impossibility of Authorization by formed standpoints. Readers interested in its proximity to republican contestability should start with Intellectual Context; the entry point here is the question whether permanent answerability can replace consent as the center of legitimacy.

Animal ethics. Standing-Based Animal Ethics evaluates ownership-based use at its empirical best and objects there, separating welfare from permission. That makes it legible from both welfare-reform and abolition-shaped positions without being reducible to either.

Bioethics and disability studies. Standing-Based End-of-Life Ethics combines first-person jurisdiction over one's own continuation with a strict refusal of third-party quality-of-life verdicts. The framework grounds both in one reservation: the life-verdict belongs to its holder.

Artificial-minds debates. Standing-Based Ethics of Artificial Minds holds that fluent first-person reports carry little evidential weight in either direction, treats built systems' testimony as manufactured endorsement, and attaches one conduct judgment about scaling ahead of the question. Genuine Reason supplies the caution-threshold account that makes the dispute precise.

Pedagogy and system-building. Registers of Claim makes the framework a specimen of register discipline: a system that marks its foundation, bridge premises, defended positions, and open questions. It can be taught as method — how to read and attack a moral framework — independently of agreement with its conclusions.

Activist contexts

Antinatalist communities. The fit is real but bounded. The framework's antinatalism is non-harm-based, non-eugenic, first-person in practical force, and structurally blocked from reproductive coercion. It also gives up moves some antinatalist communities find rhetorically powerful: ranking lives, contempt for parents, and suffering as recruitment material.

Animal advocacy. The argument survives the high-welfare reply because it is built at the best case. Standing Answerability and Provision Before Prevention also supply transition constraints: producers and dependent communities may not be made the expendable material of abolition.

Labor organizing. Labor Under Engineered Necessity gives a precise reply to "you chose this job": contract form can hide the field in which the contract was offered, and need is not permission. The design specifications at Standing Answerability are instrument-neutral, so the diagnostic travels across organizing traditions that disagree about remedies.

Reproductive justice and bodily autonomy. Standing-Based Reproductive Ethics treats pronatalist pressure and population-control policy as the same jurisdictional claim with opposite aims, protects the pregnant person's decision without needing to settle fetal sentience, and expressly credits the reproductive-justice framework it restates.

Disability rights. Provision Before Prevention treats provision and prevention as opposed rather than complementary in disability policy; Standing-Based End-of-Life Ethics refuses external better-off-dead verdicts on disabled, dependent, or costly people; and the framework's antinatalism cannot generate the judgment that particular kinds of lives should not begin.

Migrant, welfare, and civil-registration advocacy. Administrative Legibility supplies a general rule often argued case by case: protection before documentation, human appeal over the file, and the person outranking the record.

Criminal-justice reform and abolition. Standing-Based Punishment Ethics rules out purely aggregate-deterrent punishment and practices that run on the punished as spectacle or institutional supply, while leaving desert open. It is therefore usable across the reform/abolition line without settling it.

Movement-internal use. The framework aims its diagnostic at its own side first. The Wrongdoer's Standing, Advocacy as Stewardship of Voice, Infrastructuralization, and Complicity and Direction address consumption of enemies, consumption of members, purity ranking, and the unanswerable question am I clean?

Beyond those contexts

Parents, prospective parents, and deliberators. Standing-Based Ethics of Parenthood is independent of the antinatalism: formation without bending the child's judgment, and no claims from the beginning itself, are obligations of those who have or raise children whatever one concludes about having them. A person deciding whether to have children finds both the antinatalist case and The Gift View presented as live.

People leaving family or communal claims. Gratitude Without Debt, Non-Possession, and the family and lineage case at Infrastructuralization give vocabulary to adult children under repayment claims, people exiting high-control communities, and people whose relations attach standing costs to refusal.

Institutional designers and administrators. Standing Answerability and Administrative Legibility function as evaluative criteria for people who build and staff the systems the framework criticizes. Arrangements and Lives keeps the diagnostic aimed at design rather than at personal contempt.

Community stewards and moderators. The register vocabulary, the stewardship conditions at Advocacy as Stewardship of Voice, and Answerability's judgment/jurisdiction distinction may help govern communities of position-holders: they distinguish holding and arguing a view from installing it as a standard members answer to.
